What is hypnosis?  There are many definitions, but probably the best way to describe it is in terms of a very narrow focus of attention.  Some call it hypnosis, some call it trance, others call it guided relaxation or guided imagery.

We all do it all the time, quite naturally, to give the “thinking” part of our brain a rest.  Have you ever driven somewhere and realised you had no memory of the journey?  Been so involved in a film, book or piece of music that you didn’t realise what was going on around you?  Become completely absorbed in a computer game, exercise, or sport and not noticed the time?  Or simply found yourself staring off into space?

Is Hypnotherapy For Me?
Some people are afraid a hypnotherapist will “control their mind”.  We want to reassure you about that from the outset.
Then you’ve been in trance, the state of mind most useful for helping the brain learn new patterns.  After discussing your issue with you, we will use the trance state to help you learn new patterns of behaviour or responses, easily and effectively.  You’ll know exactly what’s going on at all times and be able to hear everything around you, but feel wonderfully relaxed.

So yes, hypnotherapy can certainly be for you.  And no, you won’t leave the session clucking like a chicken - you’ll feel wonderfully refreshed, relaxed and hopeful, and probably go
on to have the best night’s sleep for ages!
Can I have hypnotherapy if I have a medical condition?

We will discuss any medical conditions with you, but hypnotherapy is a very gentle, safe experience, unlikely to make any condition worse or conflict with any medication.

In addition, our clients relax comfortably for the entire session, so if you are suffering pain, hypnotherapy may be a viable option where other therapies might make you feel worse before you feel better!

Finally, the whole experience of deep relaxation cannot fail to help with general good health, pain relief and better sleep, helping you cope better with your condition.

Can children benefit from hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is completely safe, and likely to be effective for anyone
who can understand what the hypnotherapist is saying to them.  For that
reason, formal hypnosis doesn’t work so well for very young children, but
can be very useful for older children and teenagers.  (We require a
responsible adult to be present when working with under 16s.  We hold
clean Criminal Records Bureau checks, available to view on request).
